Today, Foresight2020 is releasing their security onboarding checklist: a step by step guide to securing your devices and accounts. This checklist aggregates suggestions across several Democratic organizations (DNC, Digidems, etc.) and best practice security measures in an easy-to-consume way.
Campaigns can distribute the checklist to their team in the following manner: The person in charge of security (IT/security person, campaign manager, etc.) should create a copy of this guide, customize it with the appropriate apps for their organization, and share it with the team. Each team member should make their own and fill out the checklist, and send back to the person in charge for verification. Foresight actually uses this very checklist and procedure when onboarding its own volunteers.
Though this checklist is a fantastic new resource for campaigns it’s important to remember that a checklist alone won’t prevent a breach, as human error accounts for 95% of breaches. Through taking a training course with Foresight, campaign staff can learn to maximise the effectiveness of every step on the checklist.
